Deep Water Cay
POINTS OF INTEREST
Deep Water CayFounded in 1958 by Gil Drake and iconic Field and Stream editor A.J. McClane, Deep Water Cay is the longest established bonefishing lodge in the Bahamas. But after changing owners and undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion in 2013, this now shabby-chic luxury lodge offers much more than time on the flats, including an on-site scuba dive shop, Hobie Cats, kayaks, paddleboards, bicycles, and tennis courts. Still storied for its consistently productive bonefishing, it continues to bring in the big fish like celebrities for the taping of the Outdoor Channel's Buccaneers and Bones, and a who's-who list from the fly-fishing world. The resort is situated on its own private island, available by reservation only. Go by car, less than an hour drive from Freeport, or go direct by private plane to the 4,200-foot airstrip with Bahamian Customs and Immigration. Whatever you do, just go!
