Getting Here and Around

Although there are minibus services from the nearest village, Chom Tong, to the summit of Doi Inthanon, there is no direct bus route from Chiang Mai. The most convenient way to access the park is either to book a tour with a Chiang Mai operator or hire a car and driver in Chiang Mai for around B3,000. If you're driving a rental car (about B2,000 per day), take Highway 108 south (the road to Hot), and after 36 km (22 miles) turn right at Chom Thong onto Road 1099, a sinuous 48-km (30-mile) stretch winding to the mountain's summit. The ashes of Chiang Mai's last monarch, King Inthawichayanon, are contained on Road 1099 in a secluded stupa that draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually.
